Spacing
Spacing is the opposite of crowding. It occurs
when there is an excess of space and gaps between teeth. This generally
occurs when the teeth are smaller than the available space in the
jaw. Spacing can also be caused by protruding teeth, missing or
impacted teeth, or sometimes abnormal tissue attachments to the
gums.
Correcting Spacing Problems:
The gaps can be closed by moving the teeth together
with braces and properly aligning them within the arch. If extra
gum tissue was the cause of the spacing, a minor surgical procedure
may be necessary to keep the spaces closed.
Missing Teeth
Missing teeth is the absence of a tooth (or teeth)
that should normally be present. This can be caused either by trauma
or lack of normal development.
Correcting Missing Teeth:
The space can either be
closed with braces or opened for tooth replacement. In the latter
case, a bridge or dental implant are restorative options
