Crowding
Crowding is the lack of space for all the teeth
to fit normally within the jaw. The teeth may be twisted or displaced.
Crowding occurs when there is discrepancy in the ratio of tooth
size to jaw size, or when the teeth are larger than the
space available.
Correcting Crowding:
Extra space can be created by expanding the
dental arches or removing teeth. With this new space, braces
will eliminate
the crowding
and align the teeth.
Impacted Teeth
Impactions can be caused by improper positioning
of the developing tooth bud. This can cause the tooth to fail to
grow into the mouth properly. Impactions can also be caused by
the early loss of baby teeth or by the crowding of teeth. Impacted
teeth are usually wisdom teeth, but
canines and premolars can also be impacted.
Correcting Impactions:
Usually the impacted tooth is surgically exposed.
Then over the course of a few months they are brought into the
correct position by using braces. An oral surgeon working closely
with our office will typically perform a minor surgical procedure
to begin treatment.
